SUBJECT: MANAGEMENT CLARIFICATION ON VIRAL VIDEO REGARDING HOSTEL ACCOMMODATION AND FACILITIES
The Management of Bells University of Technology, Ota, has taken note of a video currently circulating on social media platforms, in which a student raised concerns over the condition of his room and the toilet facilities in one of our halls of residence.
It is important to note that the welfare, safety and dignity of our students remain the highest priority of this University. We also owe the public, our students and their parents a full and factual account of the situation.
1. Room Locks
The door locks in the affected room were fixed before resumption only to be damaged again by the student residents within three weeks. The University has been dealing with this recurring challenge: a number of students who misplace their room keys resort to forcing the doors open rather than reporting to the Hall Porters or the Maintenance Unit. This practice repeatedly damages otherwise functional locks and compromises the security of roommates’ belongings.
2. The “Self-Repaired” Restroom
The students contravened extant regulations regarding repair works on campus. Repairs onplumbing and sanitary installations within University buildings are, for health, safety and insurance reasons, executed by the University’s approved contractors.
3. Grievance Procedure
Students with genuine concerns are expected to channel them through the approved channels. These channels exist precisely so that issues are resolved without unnecessarily whipping up sentiments and painting pictures that do not reflect the actual reality.
4. Closure
We appeal to bloggers, content creators and broadcasters to seek the University’s side of any story before publication. Bells University remains open to engagement with all stakeholders and the media.
