BELLS UNIVERSITY APPOINTS PROFESSOR NGOZI UGO ARISA AS DEPUTY VICE-CHANCELLOR

The Management of Bells University of Technology, Ota, is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Ngozi Ugo Arisa, Director of Academic Planning, as the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor, effective 1st August 2025.

Professor Arisa succeeds Professor Akunnaya Pearl Opoko, who has served as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor over the past two years in accordance with the tenure of the office.

A pioneer staff of the University, Professor Arisa joined the institution in December 2005 as a Lecturer II and has since risen through the academic ranks to become a Professor of Food Technology in the Department of Food Science, College of Food Sciences. She has diligently served as Director of Academic Planning since 2017, demonstrating outstanding leadership and administrative acumen.

Professor Arisa began her educational journey at Etche Road Primary School, Aba, and completed her secondary education at Muslim Girls’ High School, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State. She holds a Bachelor of Technology degree in Food Science and Technology from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, and later earned her M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Ibadan.

Before joining Bells University, she taught at Abia State University as an Assistant Lecturer and Lecturer II. At Bells University, she has served in numerous key academic and administrative roles, including:

• College Examination Officer

• Acting Head, Department of Food Science and Technology

• Acting Dean, College of Food Sciences

• Member, Postgraduate School Board

• Member, University Senate

• Member, Ceremonials Committee

• Chairman, Convocation Sponsorship and Income Generation Sub-Committee

• Acting Director, Central Teaching and Research Laboratory

• Member, Central Admissions Committee (2017–present)

She continues to contribute to strategic university initiatives and governance through active involvement in the University SenateGoverning Council, and various strategic committees. Notably, she is a member of the Olusegun Obasanjo Leadership Institute Special Management Advisory Board and the Ad-Hoc Committee on the Dr. Alhaji Ibrahim Dankwambo Prize for Research Excellence.

An accomplished scholar, Professor Arisa has published over 60 scholarly articles in reputable journals and conference proceedings. She has presented research at numerous national and international conferences, mentored over 300 students, and supervised more than 100 undergraduate and postgraduate projects.

Beyond academia, she is a committed community and faith leader. She serves as a Sunday School teacher and Welfare Officer at Lagos Presbyterian Church, Yaba, and has previously held the roles of Sunday School Superintendent and Coordinator. She also serves as the Treasurer of the Adebola North Community Development Association, Surulere, Lagos.
