BELLSTECH CLEARED TO LAUNCH 11 CUTTING-EDGE PROGRAMMES

 National Universities Commission green-lights new degrees in Software Engineering, Cyber Security, Data Science, Biomedical Engineering and more 


Bells University of Technology, Ota, has received formal approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to establish 11 new full-time academic programmes, positioning the institution at the forefront of Nigeria’s drive for advanced, industry-relevant education.

In the approval letter received by the BellsTech, the Commission confirmed that resource-verification panels had found the university’s human and material resources “sufficient for the effective take-off” of the proposed courses.

5. Split of Management Technology into:

7.  M.Sc. and Ph.D. Information Technology

8.  M.Tech. and Ph.D. Surveying and Geoinformatics

9.  PGD., M.Eng., M.Phil. and Ph.D. Biomedical Engineering

10. PGD., M.Eng., M.Phil. and Ph.D. Computer Engineering

11. PGD., M.Eng., M.Phil. and Ph.D. Mechatronics

All programmes are slated to commence in the 2025/2026 academic session on the university’s main campus in Ota. The approval explicitly covers full-time delivery.

Reacting to the announcement, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jeremiah O. Ojediran, RE COREN, FNSE, FNIAE, IION, hailed the decision as “a watershed moment” for Bells University. “These programmes were designed in close consultation with industry leaders and international accreditation bodies. From biomedical devices to geospatial intelligence, our graduates will be equipped to solve 21st-century challenges—here in Nigeria and globally,” he said.

Next Steps

The university leadership has pledged to:

• Fast-track recruitment of additional faculty with terminal degrees and industry experience.

• Expand state-of-the-art laboratories for cyber-security simulation, rapid-prototyping mechatronics, and biomedical imaging.

• Embed professional certifications (e.g., Cisco, PMI, CFA, ESRI) into the curricula to enhance employability.

Founded in 2005, Bells University is Nigeria’s first private university of technology. The institution currently offers over 40 NUC-accredited programmes across six colleges and is recognized for its emphasis on entrepreneurship, research, and ethical leadership.
