BELLSTECH COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING COMMISSIONS FOUNDRY WORKSHOP

In line with the intentional drive of Professor Jeremiah O. Ojediran led administration to position Bells University of Technology on the global map in teaching, and research endeavours, the Vice-Chancellor, ably represented by the University Librarian Dr. Felicia Yusuf commissioned the newly constructed Foundry Workshop.

Welcoming the Vice-Chancellor and other guests was the Coordinator of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Dr. Desmond E. Ighravwe. He explained the motivation behind the establishment of the Foundry Workshop, noting that the world is fast changing into a manufacturing world. According to the Coordinator, the lifeblood of every manufacturing industry is the existence of a functional and vibrant foundry technology for multifaceted application. He said the construction of the engineering foundry workshop is significant in imbuing the undergraduate and postgraduate students with manufacturing skills that would make them become job creators rather than job seekers.

The Dean of the College, Professor Ojo S. Fayomi while appreciating the gesture of the Management attested that, Bells University of Technology was a University to watch. He enthused that this project would enhance academic performance as well as improve skills competency of students and making them self-reliant. According to the Dean, the project would also be beneficial to lecturers/instructors in improving their teaching and research activities, since new material development has become a dominant force in the engineering field.

The University Librarian Dr. Felicia Yusuf, who represented the Vice-Chancellor, before commissioning the building, said that this project would contribute immensely to the students’ entrepreneurship skills required to set up mini foundry workshops after their graduation. Furthermore, it will help in the management of metal waste generated in the University through recycling and reverse engineering.
