CHIEF OLUSEGUN OBASANJO COMMISSIONS POSTGRADUATE COLLEGE BUILDING DONATED BY ASIWAJU ONAFOWOKAN

The Chief Promoter, Bells University of Technology,  Ota, His Excellency, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, on Monday, 22 April, 2024, officially commissioned the Postgraduate Buiilding.

The building, which will be used for the College of Postgraduate Studies, was generously donated by Asiwaju Solomon Onafowokan, Chairman of Coleman Wires and Cables.

During the commissioning ceremony, Chief Obasanjo expressed his appreciation for Onafowokan’s contribution to the University’s development.

He defined success as the ability to make improvements in whatever one does and stated that the donation has made the institution even better.  He affirmed that a University like this cannot be inherited or sold by his children, as it belongs solely to the community.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Jeremiah Ojediran, spoke about the significance of the donated building. He described it as a symbol of hope, progress, and the potential for greatness.

He also thanked Asiwaju Onafowokan for his generosity, noting that the project highlighted the importance of cost-effective solutions.

The donor, Asiwaju Onafowokan, in his remarks, expressed gratitude to everyone who attended the event and apologized for the delay caused by the COVID-19 lockdown.

 Additionally, Prof. Bart Nnaji, the Pro-chancellor and Chairman of Council, commended former President Obasanjo for his contributions to education, as well as Onafowokan for his generous donation.

According to him, the ultimate purpose of the donation is to cultivate more leaders who will have a positive impact on society.

Foundation Stone Laying

In the spirit and continuous euphoria of the commissioning, the Chief Promoter, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, proceeded to lay the Foundation Stone of the proposed International ICT & E-Business Professional Certification Resource Centre.

The International ICT Centre is an endowment of the New Horizons Systems Ltd to Bells University of Technology, Ota.

While turning the sod for the new construction, Chief Obasanjo said New Horizons Systems is standing up to be counted in the annals of Bellstech as a partner in progress and a veritable building ally in the greatness of this citadel of learning.

In a short symbolic ceremony, Asiwaju Onafowokan has handed the ‘baton of endowment’ over to the Managing Director, New Horizons Systems, Mr. Tim Akano.

This signifies the completion of one endowment and the gesture of continuity in the community of philanthropy. By implication, New Horizons will also pass on the baton to the next donor to endow a project to Bellstech.
