COLENVS HOLDS 10TH ANNUAL COLLEGE LECTURE

The College of Environmental Sciences (COLENVS), Bells University of Technology, Ota, held its 10th Annual College Lecture on Wednesday, 11th May, 2022. A Festschrift titled, ‘Emerging Issues in Nigeria’s Built Environment’ was also launched in honour of the immediate past Dean of the College, Emeritus Professor James Ighalo.

The Lecture titled “The Built Industry Professions and the Emerging Challenges in the Property Development Environment” was delivered by a very distinguished and accomplished Estate Surveyor and Valuer of international repute, ESV. Victor Adekunle Alonge, FNIVS, FRICS, FIoD, 2nd Vice President Nigerian Institute of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIEVS); Senior Partner, Nelson Thorpe Alonge Estate Surveyors and Valuers and the Managing Director/CEO of Willows Projects Ltd.

As a seasoned professional who is deeply knowledgeable in the built environment and has been involved in major physical development project plans in the country, ESV Alonge, took the packed audience on a learning odyssey of the building industry.

The Chairman of the occasion and Vice-Chancellor, Bells University of Technology, Ota, Professor Jeremiah O. Ojediran, RE (COREN) MNSE, in his opening remarks welcomed and appreciated the Guest Lecturer for honouring the University’s invitation to deliver the 10th College Lecture of the College of Environmental Sciences. He enthused that this was going to mark the beginning of a mutually beneficial relationship between the University, specifically the Department of Estate Management and the Guest Lecturer.

The Chief host of the event and Dean of the College of Environmental Sciences, Professor Akunnaya P. Opoko also welcomed the Lecturer and all other guests. She reiterated that the University was indeed privileged to have attracted such a renowned personality in the industry.

Also in attendance were other members of the University Management including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francis Cheo, the Registrar, Mr. Lamidi Tafa, the Bursar, Mr. Sina Adepoju and the University Librarian, Dr. Felicia Yusuf. Other Deans, Directors, HoDs, staff, students, invited guests from other universities, secondary schools, industries and the media were also in attendance.
