Laurels for Bells University of Technology Students at the NIFST Competition

Bells University of Technology, Ota, emerged the winner of the 3rd Edition of the Food Science and Technology Quiz among Tertiary Institutions, organised by The Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology, NIFST Lagos Chapter, on 8th of June, 2023, in Lagos state.

Participating in the competition were 10 Universities, including the University of Ibadan, Obafemi Awolowo University, Yaba College of Technology, Mountain Top University, Dominion University, and Bells University of Technology amongst others.

Each University presented a two-member team for the competition, and Bells University of Technology, Ota, was ably represented by an all-female team, Hamzat Fariat Damilola and Patrick Divine Obehioya, 300 level and 500 level students of Food Technology respectively.

The students were required to answer questions from different areas in Food Science and Technology including Unit operations, Food Engineering, Machinery, Toxicity, Fermentation Technology, Introduction to Food Science and Technology and History of Food Science.

The exceptional performance of Bells Team trounced other universities such as the University of Ibadan, Obafemi Awolowo University and others to emerge as the winner of the quiz competition. Bells team was presented with an Award of Excellence, as well as a prize of 75,000 naira, donated by Dr Mrs Funmilola Oladunmoye, FNIFST, MENTEE.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Jeremiah O. Ojediran, RE:COREN, FNSE, FNIAE, while appreciating the wining team and their tutors in the company of the Dean, Prof. V. Atasie, stated that the University is proud of this amazing achievement and encouraged them to do more.

This further proves that “Only the best is good for Bells”.
