Historical Background

Food Science and Technology as a department started with two programmes at the inception of the University.  The 5-year programme leads to the award of B. Tech in the final year, in any of the following two programmes below:

  • Food Technology
  • Nutrition & Dietetics

The Food Technology programme is multi-disciplinary, integrating principles and concepts in the physical, biological and engineering sciences and applying them to the processing and preservation of foods.

The Nutrition and Dietetics programme is designed to train and prepare competent future leaders in the food, nutrition and health sectors, government establishments and the society at large, who will be sensitive to the pressing needs of management and prevention of nutritional deficiencies and set appropriate balanced diets for people with illnesses in different settings such as hospitals and the general community.
